Which Chicago Bears were winners in Week 16 vs. Cardinals?
Chicago Bears Week 16 Winner No. 3: Kyler Gordon
While he has not been a household name around the NFL and has not been on the highlight reel very much, Kyler Gordon has quietly put together a great season for the Chicago Bears. He has settled into his nickel corner spot very nicely and has been one of their most versatile defenders. Against the Cardinals, he led the team with seven total tackles and also added a sack. He dominated this game in coverage and coming up to make tackles, and PFF had him as the highest-graded cornerback in Week 16 with a 90.3 grade.
Gordon has done everything this season. He has been used as a blitzer from the corner position. He has been asked to play outside at times with injuries and has also been a consistent asset in the slot for them. He missed weeks 2-7 with an injury but since has come back and notched 55 total tackles a pick and a sack. He has been very effective as a blitzer, even if his sack numbers are low. Both he and Jaquan Brisker have been used in that role.
The Bears secondary is a strength of their team. Gordon, Brisker, and Tyrique Stevenson all look like key players going forward. Obviously, Jaylon Johnson should be extended to fill out that unit as well. If Stevenson can take a second-year leap like Gordon has this year, it could be an elite group going forward. He should watch tape on how Gordon plays because he flies all over the place and continues to make plays.
The Chicago Bears beat a bad team, so things went about how they should have. The offense continued to show out in the first half then stall out in the second, but the defense played well once again and kept the Cardinals at bay. There is a rare chance they make the playoffs, but this win was another step in the right direction for a positive end to the season.
