Why Caleb Williams is likely not going to play for the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have had a very rough start to their 2023-2024 season with three straight losses in pretty bad fashion. In what is supposed to be a bounce-back year for the club has been nothing of the source. The coaching staff has been bad, the players themselves have been bad and a lot of bad luck has also hit the Bears.

The Bears have two first-round picks that are looking like they will be in the top five. With both Carolina and Chicago struggling early the hope for many Bears fans is to end up with the first and second picks in the upcoming draft. But the big question is what does the team do if they end up with two top-five picks?

The easy answer would be to draft a new quarterback with your first pick and get the best player available with the second one. Lucky for the Bears the top ten players in this year's class look loaded. Not only does the class itself look good but this might be one of the better QB classes we have seen in a long time. With USC QB Caleb Williams sitting comfortably at the top of that group.

So perfect, the best QB that has hit the draft since Trevor Lawrence and a loaded top ten. The Bears will have a shiny new QB and another blue-chip player to go along with it. Rebuild is now trucking along and the Bears are Super Bowl contenders in three seasons. Unfortunately, that dream of Caleb Williams might be already dead in the water.

Will Caleb Williams even play for the Chicago Bears if drafted?

Caleb Williams and his father have already made statements saying that if they do not feel like the team with the first pick is in a good enough situation there's a good chance Williams will head back to USC for another season.

With NIL (name, image, and likeness) and Williams being the face of college football he doesn't need to stress or worry about the financial side of not heading to the NFL right away. Williams this season was projected to be worth 2.6 million in NIL and if he chooses to stay that number will only increase.

The big question on everyone's mind is does Caleb Williams view Chicago and the Bears to be in a good situation. The running guess would be no. Why, well the Bears were the worst team in football over the 2022-2023 season and it seems they have only gotten worse in 2023-2024. The last two QBs the Bears have drafted in the first round both look like busts. Mostly due to a lack of development from coaches and not having proper players around to help.

So with all that being said if the Bears end up with the first pick in the draft what are the odds Willams declares? That number is probably pretty close to zero. However, there is some light and the end of this dark tunnel. That being QB out of North Carolina Drake Maye.
