So many people are interested in what the Chicago Bears will do with the number one overall pick. If the team was not able to pull off a trade, would they take a second quarterback, or would they just take the best player available? That led into the debates between Will Anderson and Jalen Carter.
You can debate on the field which one you would prefer, and the Bears probably had their preference. However, the past 48 hours may have turned the team's decision into a much easier one. They either have to take Will Anderson, or they may be best to move out of the top five altogether.
Should Chicago Bears take Will Anderson, or move out of the top five?
The thought once was that the team could trade back to four, and possibly get Anderson or Carter. If two quarterbacks go in the top two picks, which would be expected, the Bears could sit at four, and one of them would fall. Now, if two quarterbacks go back-to-back, and Will Anderson goes third overall, do the Chicago Bears still feel comfortable taking Carter?
Do they feel that if they miss out on Anderson that they should get out of the top four altogether? So, now the Indianapolis Colts pick is far less appealing, and getting more in return from someone like the Panthers to fall back a bit further is starting to make a lot more sense.
While Jalen Carter has serious questions to answer on his own, the draft scouts that said that Tyree Wilson over Will Anderson would become a debate have gotten quiet recently too.
Things going against Anderson were his size and athletic potential. Wilson was expected to be a monster in both. However, while Wilson has the size, he did not test athletically. On the flip side, Anderson checked all of the size questions off of the list, and he ran the 40, which answered more questions.
The NFL combine is all about answering questions. For Jalen Carter and Tyree Wilson, they leave Indianapolis with just as many, if not more questions. Anderson checked box after box this week. The ships passed in the night, and Will Anderson will not leave Indianapolis as the hands-down best prospect in the 2023 NFL draft. So, the question is whether the Chicago Bears take him or not?
