4. Dominique Robinson feels good after the Chicago Bears draft
When the Chicago Bears drafted Dominique Robinson on day three of the 2022 NFL draft everyone understood that it was a bit of a project. Heck, he was playing wide receiver at Miami (OH) just a few years prior. So, he was pretty bad last season, but the Bears really did not want him to get on the field as much as he did.
This speaks to the reality that he is going to be trusted more in year two. Of course, considering he is just a day-two pick, the fans had the right to question the Bears' belief in him. They quickly could have drafted somebody on day two, and then Robinson would be fighting for any work. Instead, they did nothing in the draft.
DeMarcus Walker and Rasheem Green seem set to start on both edge spots. However, Trevis Gipson and Robinson will be joining into the mix in a near 50/50 split. The team did not draft Gipson and he is signed for the last time, so he may be pushed down a peg or two. With Gipson not being a priority, and the team investing in Robinson we may see a lot of Robinson as the season starts to go. Beyond that, the idea of drafting DeMarcus Walker is that he can slide inside on passing downs, and the team can take out a run-stuffing nose tackle. So, that could open more times for that third rusher, Robinson.
The addition of multiple interior guys may have Walker on the edge more, but Robinson went from possibly scraping to keep his spot to firmly in the mix for real pass rush snaps this season. That makes him a clear winner even though he was not drafted or did not have much happen to him directly.
