In the NFL, it certainly feels like you can never have enough pass rushers.

This is why the Chicago Bears should make it a priority to sign free agent defensive end Joey Bosa to a one-year deal.

It was reported that Bosa would be a solid fit for a Bears team looking to continue their surprise success from last season and turn it into a deep playoff run, per Sports Illustrated. Other free agents they listed as worthy of the Bears' consideration included former Detroit Lion Taylor Decker and longtime New Orleans Saint Cameron Jordan. Out of all the potential options left, Bosa is most definitely the best fit for the Bears.

Bears should look at Joey Bosa in free agency

Bosa is currently still on the free agent market after an up-and-down season with the Buffalo Bills that saw him rack up five sacks in 15 starts. Once a formidable pass rusher, the 2016 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year logged 72 sacks in nine seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, earning five Pro Bowl nods in the process.

While Bosa might not be able to get to the quarterback as he could in his prime, he would still be a worthwhile addition for the Bears. Bosa can still pressure the quarterback with the right snap count and would provide a veteran presence to the defensive line. The Bears ranked just 22nd in the league last season with 35 sacks, per StatMuse. Bringing in Bosa and pairing him with Montez Sweat in third- and fourth-down situations, when teams are more likely to pass, would be a huge improvement.

Every Super Bowl champion over the last two seasons had a great pass rush. It's a necessity in today's NFL. What made the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles and 2025 Seattle Seahawks so lethal was the fact that both had a defensive line rotation. The Eagles had no trouble getting to the quarterback with Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith, and Jalyx Hunt, while the Seahawks had DeMarcus Lawrence, Derick Hall, and Byron Murphy. Neither team had a star pass rusher getting 20 sacks a season. Instead, they had a team of three or four guys that could wreak havoc on all four downs.

If the Bears want to play in the Big Game in 2026, shoring up their pass rush will be key to success.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles has put together a solid offseason after signing linebacker Devin Bush, defensive back Coby Bryant, and trading for offensive lineman Garrett Bradbury. Poles should be able to make a deal for Bosa's work and then focus on the draft, where the Bears will most definitely pick up more pass rushers.

Besides the Bears, Bosa has also been linked to the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions as suitable fits for the aging pass rusher.
