There were a lot of hopeful Chicago Bears fans that they would make a move to get Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, but some did not believe it would happen (including me). Well, egg on my face has never felt better as Ryan Poles worked his magic and got the trade done.
Multiple outlets reported that the Bears have traded two first-round picks to the Titans to acquire Simmons. Chicago is also getting a 2028 fifth-round pick, and Tennessee added a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Simmons is coming off an All-Pro season in 2025, where he racked up a career-high 11 sacks. This season, he has produced 38 tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks, nine quarterback hits, four passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
The Bears actually traded for Jeffery Simmons
This is a monumental trade for the Bears, as it gives them exactly what they needed at defensive tackle. There was speculation that Chicago was looking for help on the defensive line with defensive tackle as the number one priority and edge being next.
The price that the Bears gave up, though, really shows how much they wanted Simmons on the team. Poles has been big on keeping his draft picks, so giving up two first-round picks is a bold move for him.
Simmons is worth the price. He has been a Pro Bowler four times and a two-time second-team All-Pro selection as well. There has not been a defensive tackle in the NFL who has been better over the last few years than Simmons.
This firmly puts the Bears in the conversation for the Super Bowl, as their defensive line gets the boost needed. Simmons will most likely join Grady Jarrett in the starting lineup.
One thing the Bears need to keep in mind, though, is that he got a three-year, $105.8 million contract extension back in June from the Titans. While he is going to be expensive, he will at least be secure on the team for a long time.
Where do the Bears go from here after the Jeffery Simmons trade?
Simmons will be in the starting lineup and will get a ton of snaps. Him and Jarrett will start with Kentavius Street being in the rotation on the defensive line.
The question is whether Simmons can get up to speed on Dennis Allen's defensive scheme quickly before their Monday Night Football showdown against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8. They will most likely let him play free and do what he does best: trust his instincts and natural ability.
There will be some kind of movement on the defensive line, as there could be someone getting released or traded. Chicago will need to act quickly on making room for Simmons on the roster.

Bears fans will have to be patient, but they will be looking forward to seeing Simmons on the field in their uniform. It's a season-changing trade that will help Chicago get to the Super Bowl.
