Ashton Jeanty has become a popular suggestion for the Chicago Bears after the team has built up their offensive line during free agency.
While there is a chance that he would be the pick at 10, there is still a debate about whether or not he will get there.
This is not a loaded draft with elite names at the top, and most would struggle to put nine names ahead of Jeanty. So, the only way he realistically falls is because of positional value and the needs of other teams.
Teams who might steal Ashton Jeanty away from the Chicago Bears
The top three picks appear to be set as Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, and Adbul Carter in whatever order they fall. Next is the New England Patriots, who not only have Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson but also have serious needs at premium positions and should be focused on left tackle.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a similar boat after extending Travis Etienne and hitting on Tank Bigbsy in the draft.
This takes us to the Raiders who have become a trendy destination for Jeanty. They added Geno Smith and Pete Carroll which shows they are ready to win now. They also have a built-up offensive line and enough core pieces on defense to justify the selection. They need a receiver just as badly, but there could be a debate that Jeanty is the more transcendent offensive weapon of this draft.
The New York Jets at seven are another interesting fit, and NFL dot com has already mocked Jeanty to this team. They have Breece Hall, but a new coaching staff and General Manager who did not draft him are in place, and Hall will be a free agent after this year.
If Jeanty slips past six or seven, the only way he does not make it to the Bears is through a trade. The Carolina Panthers added Rico Dowdle to Chuba Hubbard this offseason, and the Saints locked Alvin Kamara down for the rest of his career.
When you break down the first nine picks, there are only two teams that have a realistic debate about taking Ashton Jeanty. Bears fans should be focused on picks six and seven if they want the Boise State running back.
