The Chicago Bears are 10-4 on the season and have done a total 180 since the 2024 season. Most everything is working for Chicago at this point, but there is clearly still a ton of work to do. While Chicago has not clinched anything yet this year, they are in a good position to win the NFC North and perhaps earn one of the top two seeds in the NFC playoffs.
A huge positive from this season is also the great start to the Ben Johnson era. Johnson is clearly a head coach in this league, and teams usually find out one way or another early on whether their coach is 'the guy' or not. Not only is Ben Johnson excellent, but the Bears excel at a couple of things that could help propel them to the Super Bowl this year.
While that may seem a bit over the top, stay with me for a second...
Chicago's elite run game and ability to create turnovers can lead them to the Super Bowl in 2025
The Chicago Bears have an elite run game this year, and it's something Ben Johnson was able to improve seemingly overnight. Chicago has rushed for 2,131 yards, which is the best mark in the NFC and second-best in the entire league. They've also averaged 4.8 yards per rush, which is tied for the fourth-highest mark in the league. But why is a strong run game so important?
Well, teams establish the run on offense before anything else. It's how a team sets the tone and wins the battle in the trenches, and perhaps most of all, it's how teams can extend drives and bleed out the clock, which will be crucial for the playoffs. Chicago being able to set the tone on the ground will allow them to extend drives and also throw the ball, as defenses will have to respect the run game.
Establishing the run opens up everything for the offense, and it also helps the defense, as the extended offensive drives give the Bears' defense extra time to rest. Chicago has been held under 100 yards rushing in just four games this year, and has rushed for at least 150 yards in five contests in 2025.
A second apparent reason why Chicago could make a Super Bowl run this year is the turnover battle. Chicago ranks first in the NFL in total turnovers, turnover differential, and interceptions. Dennis Allen's defense also ranks third in fumble recoveries.
Creating turnovers can swing the momentum of the game and obviously flip the possessions back to the Bears. There is a non-zero chance that Chicago will be in a position during the playoffs where a turnover could be the deciding factor in the game. Being that the Bears have excelled at this all year, there is reason to believe that someone could come up with a timely turnover to change the outcome of the game.
