The expectations are high for Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, and those are not going to tame down in the Windy City entering 2025.
Chicago Sports Network's Ruthie Polinsky and Clay Harbor spoke on Big Pro Football Show where they discussed Sports Illustrated's recent article on Williams being named one of 10 potential first-time Pro Bowlers in 2025. Harbor sees Williams succeeding with the weapons around him.
"I know 10-game losing streak, he had his struggles, but I think this is possible. I think Caleb in this new, revamped offensive line in front of him, with the new weapons Colston Loveland, Luther Burden, obviously Ben Johnson calling plays to his strength. I think they can get the running game going. Caleb's going to excel."
Polinsky echoes those same sentiments with a reminder to Williams that the excuses are out the door this season.
"He has all the pieces around him to do so that's really the biggest thing for him now it's just about no excuses and that's the phrase that will continue to use all offseason as we look into training camp. You said it, the head coach, the offensive line, the weapons, the receivers, and everything. It's all set up for him to have a successful season. You're not going to have three offensive coordinators in one year, you're head coach isn't getting fired this year and neither is your offensive play caller because guess what? It's the same guy, so you're going to make sure you are setting up Caleb Williams for success.

How much pressure is Williams under in 2025?
Last season's most significant issues for Williams were the 68 sacks he took, the most by any quarterback in the NFL. It has been the primary focus of Johnson's coaching with Williams during offseason workouts. Williams has to be able to make off-rhythm throws and even chuck the ball out of bounds if no one is open.
The numbers in 2024 show that Williams can at least protect the football through the air, with six interceptions, but the 10 fumbles are a concerning statistic. On the flip side, 20 touchdowns isn't bad for someone who went through multiple play callers and inconsistent play at receiver.
Johnson's strength as a play caller is being able to adapt to the quarterback he is working with. When he was in Detroit, Jared Goff wasn't going to blow anyone away with his skills, but Johnson called the right plays to set him up with success.

The same will happen in Chicago as Williams has everything he needs: talented pass catchers, an improved offensive line, and an offensive genius. Polinsky can continue to say those words out loud all season.
No excuses.
