The Chicago Bears have been tied to offseason trades that made sense, such as for edge rusher Maxx Crosby, but a newly proposed trade is questionable at best.
Bears' backup quarterback Tyson Bagent has been the most popular subject of trade rumors in Chicago, with no bites so far. ESPN NFL reporter Dan Graziano proposed a truly interesting trade that would send Bagent to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for Anthony Richardson.
"I don't see anyone giving up a pick for Richardson at the moment. The Bears dangled Bagent in trade offers earlier this offseason, and here he likely gives the Colts a better backup option than Leonard. Richardson gets to learn from Bears coach Ben Johnson and maybe show enough in the preseason that he becomes appealing to another team in trade. Heck, maybe Johnson has some ideas for how to use him in a package or two. The Bears still have Case Keenum behind Caleb Williams as a veteran backup."
Bears' proposed trade for Anthony Richardson is really out of left field
No one can deny that Richardson has one of the strongest arms in the NFL, but the accuracy and mechanics are all over the place. He was an experimental selection by the Colts who really should have been more of a second- or third-round developmental quarterback.
Chicago would probably prefer to have Bagent as Williams's backup over Richardson. Bagent is just more familiar with Johnson's offense, and Johnson has to focus on Williams' development and doesn't need to spend extra time trying to make it work with Richardson, who isn't even the franchise's future quarterback.

Richardson is better off with a team that can see him as a quarterback in a year or two. Williams is the Bears' franchise quarterback who needs Johnson's full undivided attention, so Bagent is just the better option at this point.
