The injuries just continue to keep piling up for the Chicago Bears, with yet another key player hurt for them.
CHGO's Mark Carman reported that Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent suffered a hamstring injury in the 34-10 blowout win over the Cleveland Browns. Bagent's status is unknown for their second preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He finished the game completing 13-of-22 for 169 yards and one touchdown with one interception.
With Bagent gone, Case Keenum will most likely move into the backup role, and if Caleb Williams doesn't play against the Bengals, Keenum will get the start. More importantly, though, it opens the door for undrafted rookie Miller Moss to step up and perform at his highest level.
Tyson Bagent's absence opens the door for Miller Moss to shine with Bears
Moss played in the fourth quarter of the Browns. preseason game. He finished the contest by completing 3-of-8 for 48 yards.
It was clear Moss was a rookie trying to get used to the pace of the NFL game. His accuracy wasn't there, but he showed good signs of development and was taking coaching well.
Moss's journey to the NFL is an interesting one: he started his college career with the USC Trojans, where he was at one point Williams' backup. Moss finished his college career at Louisville last year, throwing for 2,679 yards and 16 touchdowns to seven interceptions, going 9-3 as the starter.
Making the Bears' roster was always going to be a long shot for Moss, as he had to try to beat out Keenum for the third-string job. It seems very unlikely that it would happen, and Keenum's 9-of-10 passes for 151 yards and two-touchdown performance against the Browns made that point clear.
What Moss is playing for, though, is a spot on the practice squad. It was similar to what Austin Reed went through last year with the Bears, but Chicago didn't keep more than three quarterbacks on its active roster or practice squad.
This is where Moss can separate himself from what Reed did and earn the right to be on the practice squad. He will need to have a much better performance than he did against the Browns, but Bagent being out actually opens a massive door for Moss to walk through.
There isn't a lack of weapons for Moss to take advantage of to get there, though. Between Kaden Davis, Scotty Miller, Ray-Ray McCloud, and JP Richardson, the depth at wide receiver is insane for the Bears and gives Moss everything he needs to be successful. Add in some Sam Roush action at tight end, and the Bears should be solid on offense around Moss.

If Moss gets the proper amount of reps against the Bengals and can shine on the biggest stage of his career, maybe there is hope he can be on the practice squad and make the kind of impression he needs to on Bears head coach Ben Johnson.
