Chicago Bears fans wished the team had been more aggressive in the offseason and made more trades, but the team was quiet in that regard.
What the fan base wanted Bears general manager Ryan Poles to do was make a trade for an elite edge rusher like Maxx Crosby or Myles Garrett, but Poles decided to not do anything at the position. Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox put together some unrealistic hypothetical trades, each involving three teams as they do in the NBA. Knox had the Bears involved in a trade that would land them Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat; the Carolina Panthers would get tight end Cole Kmet, and the Cardinals would get 2027 fourth-round picks from the Bears and Panthers.
"Chicago needs to bolster a pass rush that recorded just 35 sacks last season. The Bears also have a potential trade chip in tight end Cole Kmet, who may no longer have a prominent role with the Bears. He was previously Chicago's primary receiving tight end, but that role now belongs to Colston Loveland. The Bears also just drafted tight end Sam Roush in the third round."
"In this deal, the Panthers add a quality pass-catcher while chipping in draft compensation to help the Bears get Sweat to Chicago."
Bears would finally land edge rusher in the offseason with wild trade proposal
Of course, in the NFL, three-team trades are not legal, unlike in the NBA. It would be fun to see that in the NFL, though, as it would bring some excitement to the trades.
Sweat would be a game-changer for the Bears as he would join Montez Sweat (not related) in an edge rusher room that needs help. Josh Sweat is coming off the best season of his career with 12 sacks for the Cardinals. He has been in the Pro Bowl once, with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021.
This trade would also help get Kmet off the Bears' books, as he has been the subject of trade and cut rumors throughout the offseason. With Chicago having Colston Loveland and rookie Sam Roush there at tight end already, Kmet became expendable in a trade.
As for the fourth-round draft pick, if that is all that it takes to get Sweat, it is well worth the price. He has outplayed a fourth-round pick, so that would be a steal for the Bears.

A trade like this could never happen, but it would be great to see the Bears show that kind of aggressive movement to improve the team. Poles doesn't appear to be doing that anytime soon, so the fan base is stuck with what they got...for now.
