There are certain images that Chicago Bears fans can never forget, and while today marks a New Year, Yahoo Sports is making sure that the fanbase does not forget the defining image of the Bears' 2024 season.
While highlighting different graphics that they had ready for use, there was one that Bears simply will not be able get out of their head.
Yes, that is a jubilant Matt Eberflus, DJ Moore, and Caleb Williams following a perceived defeat of the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving day. This image represents the alternate reality for the Bears' 2024 season, in which Eberflus proved to be the answer as the team's head coach while Williams led the Bears to the top of the NFC North.
Instead, the lasting image that has become the definition of the 2024 season for the Bears is Eberflus and Williams looking confused during the closing seconds of their loss to the Lions on Thanksgiving while the head coach stood motionless on the sideline, failing to use his final timeout and get the offense setup for a potential victory over the Lions.
Life after Eberflus hasn't been much better for the Bears. They are currently on a 10-game losing streak as they enter their final game of the season against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The Packers are a team the Bears haven't beaten since the 2018 season. With the reality hitting the Bears in the face that they will finish the season with an 11-game losing streak after opening with a 4-2 record, the hope is that 2025 will mark a new era for the team.
The problem with that hope is recent reports suggest that the Bears are plagued with the same confusing football structure that has plagued the franchise for the past decade. Not an encouraging for a Bears' team that needs to win the offseason if they are going to get the most out of Caleb Williams.
