Two-Face Visits Bears Training Camp

AUTHOR: beargogglebob | IN: Bears, Breaking News, NFL, News, Rumors | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

One of the main villians of The Dark Knight appeared at the opening of Chicago Bears training camp to get things started, only he was black and his name is Lovie Smith. Fans have been wondering all week if Rex Grossman or Kyle Orton would be the quarterback to take snaps with the first team offense. Right up until the day before the opening of training camp, Lovie refused to reveal the top candidate and told reporters they would have to wait until Wednesday afternoon.
The result? A coin flip. Coach Lovie Smith based his decision on [...]

Devin Hester Holding Out For Contract

AUTHOR: beargogglebob | IN: Bears, Breaking News, NFL, News, Rumors | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Chicago Bears started training camp fresh off Brian Urlacher’s contract extension and Chris Williams signing and hoping for good karma going into the season. Instead, they had the rug pulled out from under them when Devin Hester didn’t show up to training camp and announced he was holding out for a better contract.
Hester has been negotiating with the Bears all summer and both sides appeared to be slowly reaching an inevitable agreement. Today’s announcement came as a shock to coach Lovie Smith and GM Jerry Angelo, who thought everything was going well. Hester was quoted as [...]

Bears Sign First Round Pick Chris Williams

AUTHOR: beargogglebob | IN: Bears, Breaking News, Draft, NFL, News | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Chicago Bears opened the first day of training camp by putting to rest any worries about first round draft pick Chris Williams holding out. Not only did Williams show up, he signed a deal with the team for 5-years, $16 million, with $10 million guaranteed. Not a bad deal for a guy anticipated to be the starting left tackle on the offensive line.
On the first day of training camp Williams took snaps with the second and third team offense but there is little doubt he will quickly climb the depth chart. The Bears drafted Williams with [...]

Urlacher Signs Contract Extension

AUTHOR: beargogglebob | IN: Bears, Breaking News, NFL, News | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Chicago Bears put to rest a completely unnecessary distraction in an off-season when signing young stars to long contracts was supposed to be a priority. Monday the Bears signed Brian Urlacher to a one-year extension to end in 2012 for the tune of $18 million with a $6 million signing bonus. Urlacher was already signed with the team until 2011 but decided he wanted an extra year and fat signing bonus now. I can almost hear the clatter of loafers from lawyers running to the court house to re-examine child custody terms.
Forget that the [...]

Bears Sign Kevin Jones

AUTHOR: beargogglebob | IN: Bears, Breaking News, NFL, News, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

After weeks of silence from the Chicago Bears organization, a flurry of activity has erupted from Halas Hall.  On Monday the Bears announced that they had changed their mind and invited former Detroit Lions running back Kevin Jones for a workout.  Jones arrived on Tuesday to show the Bears that he has fully recovered from torn ligaments in his knee.  The surprising result is the Bears didn’t even let him get back on the plane before signing him.
Jones has agreed to come to Chicago in a one-year deal worth $605,000 that works as a win-win for both sides.  It gives [...]

Expectations For Matt Forte

AUTHOR: beargogglebob | IN: Bears, Breaking News, Draft, NFL, News, Rumors, Video | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

It won’t be long until we will be up to our ears in speculation on how Matt Forte will perform in the NFL as the primary running back for the Chicago Bears.  I thought it would be nice to look back for a moment at some of his college highlights.  The good news is he displays a couple qualities that are critical to be successful in the NFL.
The first few clips you can see he is good at turning the corner and changing speed and the rest of the video he shows that he can run between the tackles.  It [...]

Favre Can Have Last Laugh In Chicago

AUTHOR: beargogglebob | IN: Bears, Breaking News, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, News, Rumors | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The sports world as been buzzing about the possibility to Brett Favre returning to football.  When I first heard the news break you could hear the sound of John Madden dropping his Turducken and dancing with joy.  The problem is the Green Bay Packers don’t seem to really want Favre to come back, they are ready to move on and usher in a new quarterback.  Well I have the solution, Favre should have the last laugh and come play for the Chicago Bears.
Wouldn’t that really be poetic justice?  After all his years of whipping the Bears and now being thrown away by [...]

Dream Day For A Bears Fan

AUTHOR: beargogglebob | IN: Bears, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The bloggers of http://Fansided.com are doing a fantasy blog of your ideal doubleheader.  I didn’t participate in the original post, which you can read here:  Doubleheader but I decided to do one now.
It really isn’t much of a stretch for me really.  The day starts with an afternoon game at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.  It’s a warm, beautiful day, the sun is shining, the bleacher bunnies are in full bloom, and the Cubs are playing the White Sox.  I sit back and relax until some drunk Sox fan tells me how they know how to win the World Series like they have [...]
