AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Chicago Bears held their 18th annual Bears Care fundraiser to benefit breast and ovarian cancer research.  The coaching staff, front office and many old time Bears were well represented, but none of the current players suited up due to the lockout.  A good time was had by all. Continuing our offseason series of Chicago Bears history lessons, we bring you the 1966 Chicago Bears, courtesy of Hulu. Comparing Bulls and Bears Seasons

AUTHOR: | IN: Off-Topic/Other | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I just finished watching the last meaningful game I will invest my time in until the knucklehead NFL players and owners settle their labor dispute, finishing up watching the Bulls drop the Eastern Conference Finals to the hated Miami Heat.  It takes me back to the cold January day when the Beloved Bears dropped the NFC Championship to the hated Packers.  There are some comparisons to draw between the way the seasons and terrible ends for both teams played out.  It’s not as crazy as it sounds. Overachievers If I would have told you last summer that in 2011 both [...]

Taking Sides – Coaches File Brief in Support of Players vs Lockout

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

Clipped from: www.chicagotribune.com (share this clip) The NFL Coaches Association jumped into the legal clusterf*ck by filing a brief with the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals expressing their support of the players, saying that the lockout is putting their jobs in jeopardy. “Preparation is a coach’s currency, and coaches rely heavily on the offseason to prepare their players for the season,” the NFLCA said. “If the NFL’s lockout denies coaches the necessary time with players, coaches will be significantly more limited in their ability to prepare their teams and to prove their value as coaches.” Coaches currency?  The coaches’ [...]

LOWER THE BOOM: New NFL Rule Changes Will Alienate Fans

AUTHOR: | IN: Lower the Boom | COMMENTS: 11 Comments

If you’re like me, you’re getting a little antsy about now.  As a Chicagoan, you’re starting to see the light at the end of the Bulls playoff tunnel and both our baseball teams are nothing to write home about.  This is the time when you should start doing your fantasy football homework and making plans for which Bears road game you’re going to attend (New Orleans, duh!).  Instead, we’re hearing about appeals and injunctions, stays and labor laws.  Not how we hoped to plan our offseason.  To make matters worse, NFL owners approved some of the lamest rule changes this [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: Blotter | COMMENTS: None Yet

Garrett Wolfe’s troubles in Miami that led to his arrest on multiple counts including assaulting an officer all started over a few bottle of champagne and a $1572 bar tab.  This from the Sun Times: Wolfe, who has been primarily a special-teams player for the Bears for the last four years, allegedly became aggressive while disputing the purchase of three bottles of champagne at Cameo Nightclub in Miami Beach. He was removed forcefully from the club, causing business to stop and patrons to leave, according to the report released by Miami Beach Police. Once outside, Wolfe was initially restrained before [...]

New Bear Gabe Carimi a Hit a Jewish Festival

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Newest Chicago Bear offensive lineman Gabe Carimi made quite an impression while appearing at a local Jewish festival over the weekend.  Carimi, who was joined by about 4500 people to kick off the parade from Old Orchard through Skokie looks forward to embracing a new community: “I’ve been in the same community in Madison the whole time,” Carimi said of his interest in leading the parade and his time in the Wisconsin capital where the university is located. “I’ve been looking forward to branching out to the new Jewish community and setting up new friendships here.” Carimi, who is a pretty [...]

Former Bears RB Garrett Wolfe Arrested in Miami

AUTHOR: | IN: Blotter | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Chicago Bulls weren’t the only ones that had a rough time this weekend.  Former Chicago Bears running back and special teams standout Garrett Wolfe was arrested in Miami.  You might say he hit for the cycles – retail theft, disorderly conduct, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest with violence.  That’s a more distinguished resume than he put up for the Bears in his 4 years of service. According to detective Juan Sanchez, Wolfe’s trouble started when he went deadbeat on his bill at a Miami club: ‘‘He became aggressive while being ejected by bouncers, and two off-duty officers [...]
