Running at you faster than a drunken Bears fan, it’s your Chicago Bears week 12 free agent stock watch:

RISING

Devin Hester

Hester came within one stupid holding penalty of etching his name atop the record books for good.  But thanks to Craig Steltz, who we’ll discuss in a moment, he’ll have to wait a little longer.  Hester showed the breakaway speed that earned him the nickname “The Windy City Flyer” and was one of the lone bright spots during an otherwise awful day for the Bears.  His willingness to play defensive back during practices last week have also helped out his stock.  The Bears may be in for a heavy roster overhaul this off-season, but if Hester can come at a discounted price, he may be worth exactly what he is — a flyer.

Josh McCown

As Jay Cutler continues to nurse his ankle injury, McCown continues to improve his free agency stock.  Sunday’s game wasn’t his best performance, but it was good enough to keep the Bears in the game until late in the fourth quarter, despite a horrendous outing from the defense and a subpar performance from the offensive line.  Since the majority of the Bears’ pending free agents are on defense, it will be crucial for them to keep this offensive unit together as much as possible, Cutler and McCown both included.
