Bears Take Idaho Quarterback Nathan Enderle in 5th Round
The first I heard of the Bears sniffing around for a quarterback was several weeks ago when they worked out TCU’s Andy Dolton. I asked myself then and I’ll ask again – WHY???
I understand that they need to get a quarterback to develop behind Jay Cutler. Isn’t that what Caleb Hanie is for? Didn’t he show you that he’s developing fine in the NFC Championship game? Didn’t the Bears blow a draft pick on quarterback Dan LeFevour last season, only to let him go trying to sneak him through waivers?
It’s been made clear the Cutler is the starter and Hanie will back him up. Jerry Angelo even confirmed that the Bears wouldn’t be seeking a QB in free agency. Of course not; that would make too much sense.
Wouldn’t it be more prudent to find a competent backup for Cutler and Hanie in Free Agency? Go find a journeyman – and there are bound to be plenty that are WAY better than Todd Collins on the market – and draft a cornerback or linebacker in this spot. Draft someone to help bolster your special teams and maybe you catch lightening in a bottle. Enderle will be running scout team and will never dress in 2011 and if he does, the Bears are going to be in DEEP TROUBLE. Believe me, that’s no knock on Enderle. More on him after the jump.
Nathan Enderle is a big kid (6’4″ and 240 lbs) and he’s got a big arm. He hasn’t exactly faced top tier competition in Idaho but put up respectable numbers. He went into the draft as the 12th ranked quarterback according to NFL.com. Check out some highlights:
What do you think of the pick? Is there anyone out there that can talk me down off the ledge on this pick? Someone tell me this kid is a player and will change my opinion.
