For the last couple months, just about every NFL expert feels that Danny Trevathan would be a perfect fit for the Chicago Bears. It hasn’t just been the so-called experts, Bears fans have lined up around the block also honking their support for Ryan Pace to go out there and sign the Denver Broncos inside linebacker.

It just made too much sense. The Bears desperately need help at the inside linebacker position. The Broncos were going to have serious problems re-signing Trevathan because of their cap situation. Not to mention, Trevathan has been on record talking about how much he loves John Fox and mentioned prior to the Super Bowl that he expected the Bears to be interested in him in free agency. For Vic Fangio’s defense to really take form, he needs inside linebackers that can really tackle and make plays, and Trevathan, who will only be 26-years old in 2016, fits the mold.

Our friends at NFL Mocks, call the Bears “the favorites to land Trevathan” and they quote the Denver Post about potential landing spots for Trevathan:

"Trevathan predicted last month the Chicago Bears would court him aggressively in free agency. They are considered the front-runners, followed by Atlanta and Miami, both of whom employ coaches with ties to the Broncos."

Why is that particular piece of information so interesting? Today, we learned that the Dolphins had made a move and traded for Philadelphia Eagles’ inside linebacker Kiko Alonso.

With this trade, the Dolphins would now have little to no interest in Trevathan. Alonso was brought to Philadelphia by Chip Kelly and now that Kelly is in San Francisco, the Eagles have little interest in keeping Kelly’s former Oregon Duck linebacker. But the interesting news doesn’t stop there.

The Atlanta Falcons themselves tweeted that free agent linebacker James Laurinaitis is flying in to visit with Falcons’ brass. Based on the Denver Post citing that Chicago, Miami and Atlanta were the top three potential landing spots for Trevathan, if both Miami and Atlanta have made different linebackers their top targets, it is most likely due to the fact that they don’t feel they have a shot on Trevathan, and that most likely he is headed to Chicago.

There are other teams that have interest in Trevathan and teams that also have ties to him (like the Oakland Raiders), but just a few hours into “legal tampering,” things are looking very good for Pace to sign one of his top targets.
