Position Battle (Back-ups):

I mentioned Silatulo above who I think si the most talented back-up on the team and a guy who could theoretically play either guard or tackle spot if needed. If healthy, Silatulo should be the first linemen off the bench if one of the starters gets banged up.

Ted Larsen was picked up in the offseason from Arizona. It was one of my least favorite moves of the offseason. Living in AZ, I’ve seen plenty of Cardinal games and haven’t been impressed with Larsen at all. If you watched Amazon’s “All or Nothing” series about the Cardinals 2015 season (you should, it’s amazing), HC Bruce Arians talks about cutting Larsen mid-season twice! They made absolutely no effort to bring Larsen back which should give you some idea about his value.

In Larsen’s defense he does have the versatility to play either guard spot and center, which could come in handy over the course of the season. Hopefully he won’t be needed much though, as he will be exposed if forced to play multiple games.

Despite my dislike of Larsen, he is still an upgrade over Omameh and Ducasse from last year and Silatulo is a starting caliber player. The Bears have improved their second string back-up depth and have added some younger developmental prospects who I will cover in the next sections.
