Cornerback Kyle Fuller will miss the trip to New England due to a knee injury.

The Chicago Bears packed up and shipped off to Providence, Rhode Island on Sunday for a couple of joint practices with the New England Patriots ahead of their Thursday night game.  It will be a good opportunity for the Bears to knock heads with someone other than each other and a chance to get better.  It will be a missed opportunity for third year cornerback Kyle Fuller, who will miss the trip while he nurses a knee injury.

This comes as a bit of a surprise as Fuller hadn’t missed any significant time in camp so far, but head coach John Fox and the staff decided to be proactive with this injury and leave him behind for further evaluation:

"“It’s something he kind of was fighting through during the offseason, has fought through so far in camp,” coach John Fox said. “I’ve always been a fan of not (being in crisis mode), so we’re going to look at it a little bit more in depth and see how that materializes.”"

It’s a tough break for Fuller, who’s in a key year in his development in Vic Fangio’s defense.  There were big expectations for the former first round draft pick to step up as a number one cornerback.  Missing the practices and game with the Patriots will put Fuller behind and give an opportunity to a couple of younger corners to get some valuable reps including one of the few bright spots from last Thursday’s debacle, rookie Deiondre’ Hall.

With the Bears already a little thin in the secondary, if this injury lingers, it could be a big blow.  In the meantime, it presents an opportunity for some of the youngsters to get some valuable reps while in New England.
