Chicago Bears: 3 Under the Radar Players in the CFP Championship
1) Cordrea Tankersley CB
While injuries played a small role, the Bears’ lacked talent when it came to cornerbacks. Tracy Porter proved he was the best cover man on Chicago’s roster despite being 30 years old and injured. The Bears need to overhaul their secondary with young talent, and Cordrea Tankersley would offer a solid start.
First of all, Tankersley possesses the raw features of an NFL cornerback. At 6’1 and 200 lbs, Tankersley would be the second tallest member of the Bears’ secondary. Additionally, Tankersley demonstrates great use of his hands and arms on most plays. His ability to disrupt receivers at the line of scrimmage as well as break up passes makes him great in man coverage. A few teams chose to avoid Tankersley’s side of the field altogether in the passing attack this season
Statistically, Tankersley logged 41 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 10 passes defended this season.
What could make Tankersley fall in the draft is his lack of top end speed. While his coverage skills make up for any speed he gives up, it makes his margin for error considerably smaller. His quality as a cornerback is unquestionable, but unless he clocks under a 4.5 in the 40, he could be a play in the 2nd or third round for the Bears.
