Bears fans received good and bad news regarding their future quarterback

Mitchell Trubisky has earned a larger role in the preseason. No matter what you say about letting a quarterback groom, and the amount of money Mike Glennon received to start, it is clear that Trubisky deserves a larger role in the preseason. He has faced two teams, he has looked composed and he has made passes, whether it be in the pocket or outside of it.

That is why was enlightening to see the Bears giving Trubisky reps with the team’s starters in their Wednesday practice session. Trubisky is not going to progress excelling in the same thing week after week. He needs to be challenged. His ceiling needs to be tested. The Bears giving him time with starters shows that they are at least open to that idea.

Just when you think the team has slowly started to figure it out, they make an impulsive move and totally blow it. Following the practice that Trubisky saw an increased role, he was told that his role in the team’s third preseason game will be somewhere between his role in the first game and the second game.

Trubisky led a two-minute drive in the Bears preseason opener before the half. After excelling in that game, the Bears stubbornly reduced his role in their second preseason game. Trubisky still looked like the best quarterback on the roster in that situation. “Hopefully” the Titans are considerate enough to give Trubisky the chance to take on a bigger role and take on starter caliber players.

With the fourth preseason game hardly meaning anything, and rarely any starters playing, Trubisky may go a whole preseason without facing any starting caliber players. Based on the Bears plans, he will go a whole season without testing himself and his limits. Think how counter-productive that sounds. This is not a plea to start Trubisky in week one. This is a plea to test the waters and see what the team has in this prospect during a game that literally means nothing.

The Bears are stunting the growth of Mitchell Trubisky and there is nothing he can do about it.
