What now for the Chicago Bears?

Now that the Bears most important need this offseason has been filled, what now?

Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy are focusing on locking down the most important member of that Chicago Bears defense, Vic Fangio. While other defensive coordinator positions are being filled around the league, meaning less job openings for Fangio to take, it is looking good that the Bears are going to bring him back.

Assuming that Fangio is returning to the Bears now it is time for Pace and Nagy to turn their attention to this upcoming FA class. While the Bears needs are smaller than in years past, they still have quite a few holes to fill. While some say the wide receiver core is the most important, I would disagree and say the focus needs to be on Edge Rushers.

The Bears seriously lacked a pass rush this past season and looked tremendously bad once Leonard Floyd got injured. We don’t know what direction the Bears plan to take on draft night whether it is drafting a WR, OL, or an Edge Rusher with the 8th pick. I also wouldn’t rule out a trade down to acquire more draft capital seeing that this is a deep draft class coming out. But the direction they decide to take that night will likely be determined on how well they do signing Free Agents.

Next: Matt Nagy chose Trubisky over Andrew Luck

Free Agency

The best Edge Rusher available would be Ezekiel Ansah from the Detroit Lions. But I would be surprised to see the Lions let him walk even though he has had some injury issues in the past. Players like; Cornellius Carradine, Alex Okafor, and DeMarcus Lawrence are also going to be some FA available. But again, I would be surprised if any of their current teams would let them leave. While the Bears might be able to sign a couple lesser known players at that position to help fill in a much needed hole, it is looking like the Bears will be drafting an Edge with their #8 overall selection.

With this being a weak FA class in Edge Rushers, the Bears will likely focus on finding Trubisky help at WR. It would not be surprising to see Albert Wilson, Chiefs receiver and now FA, to follow Nagy to the Bears this offseason. While I do believe the Bears try to resign Inman and Wright, that won’t stop them from trying to sign some big named WR either. Terrelle Pryor, Sammy Watkins, Paul Richardson, Jarvis Landry, and the Jaguars duo of Marquis Lee and Allen Robinson are some of the big names that are available to be signed. Let’s not forget, the Bears are going to be resigning their best WR in Cameron Meredith also.
