Allen Robinson was an early signing for the Chicago Bears at wide receiver. What were the details of the deal?

With the NFL season officially underway, contract numbers are going to start becoming official. We will continue to update the terms as they come out. Currently, the details of the Allen Robinson signing are three years for $42 million. It will also feature $14 million guaranteed.

The deal gives the Chicago Bears a true number one wide receiver. Robinson is an elite route runner with great size and a strong catch radius. While he does create much separation, he overcomes it with his body control and catch radius.

While he missed the 2017 season with an ACL injury, he did have back to back seasons with 151 targets.  In 2016, Allen Robinson posted 73 receptions for 883 yards and six touchdowns. However, those numbers were huge drop offs from the year before. In 2015, he compiled 80 receptions for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns.

National Reaction

Grade: A

The Bears had an obvious weakness. They addressed that weakness by attacking quite possibly the best free agent wide receiver on the market. This an immediate boost to the Chicago Bears offense as a whole.

It is only a three year deal, and given the guarantees, if he lost a step from his injury, the team can get away from his deal. This really is a situation where it is tough to find the draw back. This a grade A signing and one that should be commended as a valiant effort even if Robinson does not live up to the potential hype.
