We all know the Chicago Bears offense is going through a major re-haul. Could play speed be a change to the 2018 offense?
What more is there to say about the Chicago Bears 2017 offense? Boring? Vanilla? Plain? However, the exact opposite could be said about expectations for the 2018 offense. With both Matt Nagy and Mark Helfferich in charge now, creativity is going to be at an all-time high in Chicago.
Mitchell Trubisky was asked about the changes that he has seen from his new offensive coordinator Mark Helfferich. Trubisky mentioned the tempo being a key.
"“He’s a very detailed guy. He brings a lot of creativeness to this offense. Obviously he’s got tempo in his background, so we like to implement a little bit of that. Just his football intelligence and IQ and how he can help me detail plays and just think about different things from different perspectives has allowed me to grow in different areas already. He’s been a huge help.”"
The added tempo would be a nice touch for the Chicago Bears. As shown in the tweet below, the Chicago Bears were the 12th slowest offense in the NFL last season.

It is worth noting that the New England Patriots sit as as the fourth fastest teaming the NFL while the Philadelphia Eagles ranked dead last in time on the play clock when the ball is snapped.

Of course, plenty of factors such as game flow, having a lead and others will impact these numbers. However, the mush of teams in the middle that feature Dallas, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and the Jets could make for the argument that you have to be on side or the other.
You can win with speed. You can slow the pace down and grind out wins. However, when you do not have an identity, and you sit on the fence, it is not going to work.
It appears as though the Chicago Bears have decided to take the path of speed. We will see how the offense is implemented and see just how fast Trubisky and the Bears really are.
