Chicago Bears: Most overpaid player
Kevin White was ranked the most over paid player on the Chicago Bears
A lot of people are now saying that because the Chicago Bears invested so much in the wide receiver position this offseason that the pressure is now finally off of Kevin White to perform and have a big season in 2018.
However, that is most likely to the exact contrary of the thinking of Kevin White. He now has to climb up the depth chart to get playing time. On top of that, the Chicago Bears declined his fifth-year option. He will And lastly, Bleacher Report has now given him the title of highest paid player on the Chicago Bears roster.
Doug Farar of Bleacher Report wrote:
"Sometimes, it’s a player when he can’t provide the value to match his team’s investment. Other times, injuries get in the way and simply never leave. White has been a victim of the latter. The seventh pick in 2015 out of West Virginia has taken the field for a grand total of five games in his NFL career, catching 21 passes on 40 targets for 193 yards and no touchdowns. He missed his entire rookie campaign with shin injuries, played just four games in 2016 before a fractured fibula shut him down for the season and he lasted only part of one game in 2017 before suffering a shoulder fracture in the season opener. For those five games, the Bears have paid White nearly $14 million of the $16.6 million deal he signed after he was drafted, and they’ll be on the hook for the full amount. This season, Chicago has a cap responsibility of $5.3 for their oft-injured receiver, and unless he’s able to somehow turn his unfortunate injury history around, his deal can only be seen as sunk cost. The Bears wisely declined to pick up White’s fifth-year option as he tries to resuscitate his career in a prove-it year that will decide his NFL future."
There is probably no denying that Kevin White is the most overpaid player on the team, even on a rookie salary. Even on a team that has been scrutinized at times for over paying some free agents to get them to come to Chicago.
Still, they are getting absolutely nothing out of Kevin White and it is costing them multiple millions of dollars for that.

Some other candidates would include Bobby Massie, Dion Sims, and Trey Burton. All three of these players provide more than Kevin White, but all three are making more than Kevin White.
Bobby Massie is quite possibly the worst starter on the team. He is certainly the worst on the offense as of now. Massie is on the last year of a 3-year $18-million deal and has a cap hit of $6 million this year.
Sims is going to be in the teams plans, and will see the field, but he is essentially looked at as the third tight end. At least in terms of upside and potential. Sims signed a very similar deal to Massie, but has a $6.3 million cap hit this year.
Lastly is Burton, who Bleacher Report noted was a bone headed signing. Burton could be argued because like White, he has not proven anything yet. Still, the Chicago Bears gave Trey Burton a 4-year, $32-million deal with $18-million guaranteed.
Burton does not have the health questions that White has and appears to be have a huge role in this offense. Still, that is a lot of guaranteed money for an unproven player whose value is completely based on projection as of this point.
Still, while these contracts are not great, if the Chicago Bears get nothing out of Kevin White, it is tough to say that his 4-year, $16 million rookie contract is not the worst on the team as of now.
