Pass Catching

Everything connected to Howard and his issues with the staff is connected to pass catching. That is why you trade him for Jarvis Landry. That is why the coaching staff has noted that they are working on his pass catching ability.

The fact of the matter is that in his rookie season, he was awful as a pass catcher. One of the worst rates a running back can have in the passing game. However, in 2018, it was not as bad. Granted, his targets dropped 36% from 2017 to 2018. John Fox and his staff realized that it was a weakness and worked around it.

Nagy is going to be adamant on working with Howard to get better at this. However, if Nagy does not trust Howard to catch passes, he will be in an interesting spot. Does he work around Howard, or without him?

As mentioned, the trust already may be waning. Add in that Howard is not progressing in the way that Nagy would have liked?

One of the keys that Nagy has pounded home with his roster is versatility. Having a player so limited to one style of play calling with a group of players so versatile around him does make his overall value in the offense questionable.

Can Nagy phase out Howard if he does not pass catching?
