Will Tarik Cohen breakout in 2018?
Tarik Cohen broke out in Week One of his rookie season. Then Dowell Loggains and the Chicago Bears locked him back up and saved him for later. There is a chance that later is now with Loggains in Miami and the addition of Matt Nagy as a play caller into the fold.
Mike Clay of ESPN.com has Cohen rated for a slight uptick in statistical projection, but Cohen could be in for more than that. Here are the five reasons why Tarik Cohen will break out in 2018.
5. Running routes
Tarik Cohen is a running back. On the depth chart, the team will list him as a running back. However, every time Matt Nagy talks about Tarik Cohen, he is bringing up his value in the passing game.
The first thing that the new Chicago Bears coaching staff did when they got together and formulated an offseason plan is added a few routes to Cohen’s workload. He has been practicing specific routes that Nagy feels he needs to sharpen up on to be fully implemented into the offense.
He was given that task pre-draft. When he came to the team after the draft, Matt Nagy was giddy about his progress in this area. Cohen has always been a shifty threat in open space. Now, he is going to be running specific routes with a purpose to get open.
With the usage of these specific routes to get him open, combined with his elite weaving ability to create space in the open field, a lot of yards could be created for Tarik Cohen in 2018 due to his route running.
