The Chicago Bears have filled their 90-man roster with the signing of Inside linebacker Ro’Derrick Hoskins
With the hold out of Roquan Smith and the absence of Danny Trevathan due to an injury the Chicago Bears have been left short handed at linebacker. With that in mind, they signed an undrafted rookie to camp, Ro‘Derrick Hoskins.
The Chicago Bears released Jeremi Hall earlier in the day. It was no surprise Hall was let go, as we identified him as having the least value on the roster. Still, without a correlating move, it was up in the air to wonder why they chose that specific time. Still, it felt as though it had something to do with the lack of depth inside.

So, with little gone in the release of Hall, little can be expected of Hoskins. Still, he is going to see a lot more snaps than Hall due to the position in which the two play. This makes the move not only justified but smart.
For what it is worth, Hoskins did start three years at a major program in Florida State. He had 45 tackles last season, 1.5 coming for a loss. The two prior years he put up 52 and 53 tackles respectively.
Still, he did not get an invite to the combine and it is because it does not take long to tell that Hoskins is unathletic. Checking in at 240 at his Pro Day, he is a bit on the heavy side for a traditional linebacker today.
It made things a lot worse when he ran a 4.88 at his Pro Day. The fact that Hoskins did not catch on this late into the process should speak to his ability to translate to higher speeds. However, he is a camp body, and a much more valuable than Jeremi Hall.
