The Seattle Seahawks defense is falling apart. That is why they have to start a linebacker who they are signing today to start against the Chicago Bears on Monday
Yesterday, we wrote that Tre Flowers, along with Shaquem Griffin was going to be exposed by any competent play caller. Matt Nagy has his issues, but he certainly falls under competent play caller for the Chicago Bears. The Seattle Seahawks saw the same tape that I did, and they did something about it, signing Mychal Kendricks, who was released by the Cleveland Browns.
The move is pretty funny, not only in that mismatch was so apparent after Week One, but also in how desperate the Seahawks must be to turn to Kendricks. Remember, Kendricks just recently made headlines for being an indicted on insider trading charges.
No other team would touch him with a ten-foot pole. However, when looking at the landscape of free agent linebackers, he is likely the only one who could start on three days notice.
He is not going to know the defense, but Griffin showed on tape that the game is too overwhelming for him to understand his role either. Kendricks can at least process the play in speed and react.
Nonetheless, this has to be comforting news for the Chicago Bears. That they think Kendricks can come in and start as an upgrade shows where they feel as though they are.
When looking at the injury report, Tre Flowers is also missing time with a hamstring injury. The team has already last Byron Maxwell and Dontae Johnson at the spot and doesn’t have anyone else to resort to.
The Chicago Bears have to take advantage.
