After spending a year on the practice squad, where does the Chicago Bears slot corner, Jonathon Mincy stock stand?

Jonathon Mincy is a player worth keeping in mind entering training camp. Not the most known player, Mincy went from Auburn to the CFL to refine his game at cornerback. A ball hawk in the CFL, the Bears decided to give Mincy a shot.

Last season Mincy competed in camp. He moved outside and inside to get snaps and catch the teams attention with versatility. It was enough for them to stash him on the practice squad and bring him back to compete for another job.

When Bryce Callahan went down Mincy had to feel that he would have a shot to prove himself. However, the team rode with special teamer Sherrick McManis during the season, they signed Buster Skrine and drafted Duke Shelley this offseason as well.

It is clear that he is still not quite in the mix for a serious job. On top of that, he is going to have to fight to find a spot on the 53-man roster.

Shelley will be depth in the slot, and McManis still brings special teams value. Stephen Denmark was drafted amongst a few UDFAs.

The group is as stacked as it ever has been. This will leave Mincy having to earn every snap. He did so last season, and it kept him around for a full year. However, it will be tougher in year two.

He may be able to stay on the practice squad but will be on the outside looking in entering camp.
