The Chicago Bears are already using the versatility of Cordarrelle Patterson to their advantage
The Cordarrelle Patterson signing has remained one of the more under the radar moves of the offseason. When the Chicago Bears signed him the question about how he would be used was raised.
He is not quite a wide receiver, plus the wide receiver room is stacked. How does he fit in? He can run from the backfield, but he is not quite a running back, though.
Today we learned that he is an offensive weapon, and is going to be both. We saw Cordarrelle Patterson motion into the backfield and take handoffs. We also saw him line up in the slot and catch passes.

The Bears are going to use Patterson more than you expect and are going to be versatile in how they use him.
We know how Matt Nagy loves versatility. Think of how he can use Patterson with a player such as Tarik Cohen. He can motion Cohen into the slot, and Patterson into the backfield and vice versa.
If teams put extra defensive backs to defend the pass, both Patterson and Cohen can run the ball. Heck, they can use Cohen, Patterson, and Montgomery and run the ball with a threat to catch from all three.
However, with three “running backs” on the field, teams may gear up to defend the run. A tight end may also be on the field and ready to block. However, that tight end could be Trey Burton, who is a better pass catcher.
Now, they can throw all over teams who wants to defend the run.
Burton, Montgomery, Patterson, Cohen. Even Anthony Miller and Taylor Gabriel can move around. This offense is going to be tough to defend.
