Three keys for the Chicago Bears to beat the Denver Broncos
By Adam Childs
2. Protect Trubisky
Against the Packers Trubisky was sacked five times, hit another 11 and had countless other times he was hurried. To put it bluntly, the Bears have to do a better job of protecting him.
When Trubisky has time he has the ability to make some very good passes and he did against the Packers, but he just didn’t have that opportunity very often. The Packers did a great job of getting to Trubisky and forced him into quick decisions and he did not do a great job doing that.
Trubisky seemed to start to get very antsy in the pocket in the second half and pulled the ball down probably quicker than he needed to, but for as many times as he was being hit it would tough to blame him.
Trubisky does throw the ball fairly well on the run but it seems he even does that better when it is designed that way. When he has to scramble and the play breaks down he struggles to connect with his receivers.
The Bears offensive line was supposed to be better this year, but after one game it has not appeared that way. We should see a few more games before we pass judgment but again they must do a better job.
The Broncos had zero sacks against the Raiders and Derek Carr had a pretty good game. There is no reason to think the Bears and Trubisky can’t do the same thing, but the line must play better. Protect Trubisky and the Bears will win this game.
