5 things you might hear a Chicago Bears fan say
Just missed the cut
Alright, this brings us to the final things you may hear a Chicago Bears fan say. Some of these are fun. Some might have been briefly mentioned already in connection to the other top five. When you have a historic franchise that has been around for 100 years, fans find many things to say.
Smoking Jay
This is homage to the Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. The saying was an internet sensation where someone created a meme of Cutler smoking a cigarette with his “I do not care” face. The creator of this meme is Brandon Freeberg. The big difference I already see between the almost great Jay Cutler and Mitchell Trubisky is how one has an I don’t care attitude about the game whereas the other might care too much.
Sweetness
This is the nickname of the late Walter Payton. He might be the most recognized name outside of Mike Ditka when it comes to the Chicago Bears. This is saying something as the Bears have had a plethora of recognizable names.
Papa Bear or Mama Bear
Papa Bear is more commonly used as people still love and respect George “Papa Bear” Halas. He helped create the NFL and obviously the Chicago Bears. His daughter, Virginia McCaskey is known now as “Mama Bear”. She took over the team in the 1980s after her father passed away and is still the majority owner of the team today.
Da Coach
I already mentioned this, but this is how people would refer to Mike Ditka after the Saturday Night Live Superfans skit became famous.
Club Dub
This is also a current saying you might hear regarding the Chicago Bears. After a win, the team turns their locker room into Club Dub (Dub meaning W for Win). The locker room resembles an actual dance club with music and lights. The players seem to love it and hopefully they are inspired to get double-digit wins again this season.
He stinks. Play his backup
Alright, this is the final one and honestly one I thought about putting in the top five. Especially after the fan reactions this season regarding Mitchell Trubisky. As someone who has been going to games and watching Bears football since the late 1990s, I cannot tell you how many times I hear fans complain about the quarterback.
I get it. The Bears quarterback situation has been bad for years. It does not help that the Green Bay Packers have had the likes of Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers at the helm. However, when you hear people calling for Caleb Hanie over Jay Cutler or Tyler Bray over Mitchell Trubisky, you have to shake your head.
The backup quarterback is not great. When my wife, who is not the biggest fan of football can point out how bad fans are in relation to the quarterback position, you know there is a problem.
