Chicago Bears: 3 trades to help fill void from Akiem Hicks injury
Leonard Williams – New York Jets
The New York Jets have yet to win a game this season. Losing Sam Darnold to mono definitely did not help matters, but this team does not look to be competing this season. With that in mind, the organization will want to bring in some better or at least new talent in 2020.
One of the teams’ players who has an expiring contract this year is Leonard Williams. Could the Chicago Bears be interested in sending a fourth-round pick for the former first-rounder? Would that be enough? Williams is only 25 years old, maybe they treat him in the same sense as the Yannick Ngakoue situation.
Williams has been less consistent as Ngakoue. He also comes with a higher price tag currently attached. That alone could lead to him wanting more money than Ngakoue. As of right now though, Williams has yet to record one sack. Could Ryan Pace use that as a negotiating tactic to help drive down the price? I am sure many other teams are considering the same tactic.
Just like the previous two defensive linemen, Williams could help fill the void left right now by Akiem Hicks not being able to play. Williams could be a solid rental player for the Chicago Bears this season, or like Ngakoue, maybe they consider him an upgrade and sign him to a deal. I am not sure he is worth his asking price, but he is definitely a better option than the likes of Abdullah Anderson.
If Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy truly believe this team is a contender this year, then I’d go all-in on one of these guys right now if there is any indication Hicks misses more than the minimum four weeks.
