Chicago Bears: 4 players the team could consider trading
Leonard Floyd – Edge
Another player who has been somewhat disappointing this season is Leonard Floyd. Similarly to Mitchell Trubisky, I thought Floyd was going to take the next step this season. He had a great first game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 but has been invisible since that game.
Unfortunately, that does not bode well for his trade market. I do think they could find a way to get a fourth or fifth-round pick for him. Floyd has shown flashes and that might be enough for a team who needs a pass rusher to take a chance.
Another issue is that he is due more than $13 million dollars next season. I admit, I thought it was a smart move to exercise Floyd’s fifth-year option, but now I am wondering if that was not as smart as I originally thought.
It does not look like the Chicago Bears will take a cap hit for Floyd in 2020 though, so cutting him is also an option if he does not perform over the last 10 games. Why risk it though if you are folding up this season? Trading him might give Ryan Pace the best return for a player who I would not call a bust, bug who did not live up to his draft pick value.
Again, let me make this clear. I am not ready to panic. Even if this season is a complete bust, I think there is enough talent on this roster to bounce back next year. The team needs to make a few tweaks here and there, but these things are fixable. If Trubisky ends up not being the guy, hopefully, a free agent option or a second-round draft pick becomes available to at least provide some competition.
I am still a Trubisky supporter, but even I have to admit the doubts are strongly creeping in. This is not all on him though. This team needs to figure things out quickly and turn it around this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
