Chicago Bears: 3 Quarterbacks to target in the second round of 2020 NFL Draft
Jordan Love – Utah State
Finally, the last guy who I think could fall into the second round is Jordan Love. Out of these three, I have Love the lowest. He had a phenomenal 2018 season when he threw for 32 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Unfortunately, 2019 has not been nearly as successful.
Love seems to really shine when he is having to make things happen. When a play breaks down and he has to make something out of nothing by extending plays with his athleticism is when Love is at his best. This trait seems awfully familiar to the Chicago Bears current quarterback.
I’m not completely sold on Love as a second-round pick though. He struggles more than Mitchell Trubisky at times with working through progressions and looking off defenders. He will lock in and not even try to sell a different route or read.
With how Love is playing this year, he might drop in value before the end of the season. This could mean he goes in the third or even fourth round depending on how he finishes out the year. The Chicago Bears do not have the luxury of owning a third or fourth-round pick. Therefore, they will need to use one of their seconds, or more ideally they try to trade back and recoup a third.
Outside of Jake Fromm, I am not in love with the other two, but Ryan Pace said it when he first came to Chicago, getting the quarterback position right is difficult and a team should draft one nearly every year. This is his chance to prove that now.
Without a first-round pick, the Chicago Bears are out of the running on guys like Tua Tagovaiola, Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts. These are all guys I expect to go in the first round. If they drop, then they too are obviously second-round draft targets.
I am here to support Mitchell Trubisky. I do not fully blame him for the offensive struggles. He has not played well though and that whole side of the ball needs to wake the bleep up. That said, the Chicago Bears need an insurance policy next year and it is time to bring in another young quarterback to groom, no matter how well or how poorly Trubisky finishes out the season.
