4. Lack of running game

To branch off of the issues in pass protection and snapping, the offensive line did not necessarily lead David Montgomery to a career day. In fact, Montgomery averaged under four yards per carry on 17 rushes, an uninspiring day. This marks six games of Montgomery averaging less than four yards per carry. For the season he averages 3.6. Jordan Howards career-low was last season and it was 3.7. Howard was a bad fit for the run scheme, but is Montgomery just not good?

Montgomery has played well but obviously does not have the explosion to rip off big runs. He is dependent on a good line. A lack of production from Montgomery against a reeling run defense shows this unit is not back, and that Montgomery just may not have the juice.

This rush offense could not put away a 20-6 lead against a team asking to be put away. Blame the play calling, but the unit is not living up to their name either.

If the Bears want to stay in the playoff hunt, they have to be able to run the ball. If teams can crowd the box, stuff the run and sprint free at Trubisky, any quarterback would struggle in that spot.
