Zach Brown

I am shocked Zach Brown has not been signed since the Eagles cut him after Week 6. I mentioned him as a possibility when Danny Trevathan went down with his elbow injury. The Bears have survived without adding any additional depth, but with the addition of Roquan Smith’s injury, the team might need to add another body here.

Brown had played on 68.4 percent of the Eagles snaps prior to being released after Week 6. During those six games, he racked up 29 tackles and two tackles for a loss. Brown is 30 years old and a solid veteran who could fill in easily. He has played on four different teams and has seen success on all of them.

His best seasons came in 2016 in Buffalo and 2017 in Washington. He made his one and only Pro Bowl in 2016 while playing for the Bills. He finished with 149 combined tackles (97 solos) including four sacks and 11 tackles for loss. He followed up that season with 127 combined tackles (84 solos).

If Chicago is serious about making a playoff run, they will need to add someone to their current roster that can take over in a moment’s notice if Nick Kwiatkoski or Kevin Pierre-Lewis were to get hurt or start to falter under the pressure. With only Woods and Iyiegbuniwe left as backups, giving Brown a cheap one-year deal would be an ideal solution.
