Can Ryan Pace redeem himself with Chicago Bears fans by finding a way to trade for cornerback Darius Slay? Here are a few options he could consider.

Here we go Chicago Bears fans. It was said that with limited salary-cap space, Ryan Pace would have to look at making some trades to improve the roster. The team tried doing that but failed miserably by overpaying when Pace traded their fourth-round compensatory pick to the Jaguars for Nick Foles. You can read my initial reaction to the trade here.

Needless to say, I was not the only one who was upset about the Bears making this move. You will find what seems to be 90 percent of fans on social media hating on the trade. My biggest gripe is that the team gave up a fourth-round pick. Especially with how well Ryan Pace has done later in drafts. Now, the team is back to seven picks and only two within the top 150.

My second-biggest issue with the move is how inconsistent Nick Foles has been throughout his career. That said, I am watching the replay of the Eagles and Patriots Super Bowl in 2017, and I have to admit Foles can at least read defenses better than Mitchell Trubisky. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the offseason plays out.

With the new additions of Jimmy Graham, Robert Quinn and Foles, the Chicago Bears find themselves in salary cap hell. The team is currently over the cap. This could change once the numbers are disclosed on the Foles restructure, but even with a restructure, the team is likely to only break even. This means Pace will need to make a few more contractual moves seeing they are shorthanded at cornerback, safety and offensive line. Not to mention they need depth.

To help fix one problem, it is possible the Bears get on the phone and inquire about Darius Slay. Slay has been pushing for a trade and maybe the Chicago Bears are the team to make it happen. Pace can extend Allen Robinson, restructure Akiem Hicks and extend Slay to a long-term contract that spreads the salary cap money around. Apparently, they already restructured Cody Whitehair’s contract. It can be done, it will just be tricky.
