The Chicago Bears have an important camp battle for the third spot on the running back depth chart. Here are the three guys competing for one job.

An underrated battle for the Chicago Bears team is the battle to be the third-string running back. On most teams, this spot wouldn’t be that valuable, but for the Bears, the third-string holds a lot of value for a few reasons.

For starters, the third-string is essentially the backup to young starter David Montgomery. Tarik Cohen is the listed backup, but he isn’t a guy who can handle a workload if Montgomery were to go down to an injury.

Montgomery was fine as a starter last season holding the workload, but that doesn’t mean he will avoid injury. The Bears have three running backs essentially battling to be the guy if Montgomery goes down. The problem is, all of them have little-to-no NFL experience.

The Bears could also use Cordarrelle Patterson, who has experience playing almost everywhere on offense, but it would make sense to give the last running back spot on the depth chart to a true running back who they believe could help the offense whether Montgomery is healthy or not.
