Who is the eight ranked player on the 2020 Chicago Bears?

As we count down the days until the start of the 2020 regular season we are in the top 10 of our 2020 Chicago Bears roster ranking

8. Roquan Smith

Last Year: 6

2018 ranking: 10

The former first-round pick has always had a huge impact on the Chicago Bears. After a promising rookie season, Roquan Smith shot up from number 10 to number six. However, in a second season that did not live up to expectations, he dipped down to number eight.

Still, there is no doubt that the Bears did not draft a Kevin White type bust here or even a Leonard Floyd type player for that matter. After two seasons, while Roquan Smith has not been an All-Pro player, he does have a lot of upsides and showed a lot of promise.

Looking at NFL players who have had production similar to him at an age as early as him, we found that Kwon Alexander is on a similar career trajectory. If this is true, there is still elite seasons to come for Smith.

The biggest issue for Roquan Smith is that he was drafted in one of the better linebacker classes in recent years. Tremaine Edmunds, Fred Warner, Darius Leonard, and more have shown this to be a class for the ages.

So, Smith has not necessarily lived up to his top ten hype and has not lived up to his top linebacker hype either.

Still, he is the second youngest of the group, and while he has not lived up to that hype, he has been an above-average performer through two NFL seasons.

This season will be a telling year as to what the Bears have. The Bears should be expecting Smith to be taking on a bigger responsibility in 2020.
