Kyle Fuller deserves recognition outside of the Chicago Bears fanbase

The Chicago Bears have one of the best corners in the NFL, however, he does not always see the recognition he deserves. When you look at most cornerback rankings, Kyle Fuller does not always make the top-10 lists. In fact, it seems he is not even an honorable mention on a recent CBS ranking.

Fuller had a steller 2018 season that led to a new contract and First-Team All-Pro honors. His 2019 season was not as productive, but he was still good enough to deserve an honorable mention on any cornerback list. Not many corners have had as good of a season as Fuller had in 2018. He saw 121 balls thrown his way but only allowed 56.2 percent of them to be caught. He came away with seven interceptions and was the definition of a lockdown corner.

The 2019 season is likely why he’s not mentioned on these rankings. Recency bias always plays a part in rankings, but to include guys like Desmond Trufant, Kevin King and Casey Hayward but not mention Fuller is blasphemy. Fuller came away with three interceptions last year and finished with 72 solo tackles. He also has 55 pass deflections over the last three years. Since 2017, he has forced the second-most incompletions.

The problem with 2019 was that Fuller would play off the receiver a little too much. This led to more completions and in return why his solo tackles numbers went up. This type of play would have worked fine when the pass rush is working, however the pass rush last year was not as good as it should have been. That will change in 2020 and I expect Fuller’s interception numbers to go back up too. Fuller should finish with a minimum of five interceptions.
