What has happened around the Chicago Bears running backs through the first week of training camp?

The biggest news to come out of the Chicago Bears running back room so far is who was in it. We speculated on it throughout the offseason and now it appears to be coming to fruition. Cordarelle Patterson has associated with the running backs much more than the receivers.

The highlights show him carrying, not catching, and Matt Nagy said Patterson has been in the running backs room for meetings.

We all knew that David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen were the one-two punch that the Bears were going to roll with. There has been next to no news on them, other than that they are in line for their starting work.

However, behind those two is plenty of questions. With Patterson, the Bears have someone the size of Montgomery, who can be used similarly to Cohen. He is the Bears backup running back now.

However, there has been some talk about Ryan Nall and his emergence as well. Ryan Pace brought up Nall early when talking about the depth and possible contributors. Beyond that, Nagy has noted that he is loving what he is seeing out of Nall so far this offseason.

Nall has played a role on special teams and has the versatility to catch, block, and run as well. With minimal depth, it appears he is locked into the coach and GMs eyes as the fourth running back behind Patterson.

There has been little from any of the other backs, although it does appear Artavis Pierce is the next back in line behind those four. He could be in line for the practice squad.
