Cairo Santos will be kicking for the Chicago Bears again in Week 2

Every single game, kicker Cairo Santos is playing for his job on this team and possibly his future with them as well. With young Eddy Pineiro being sent to the IR for three weeks, Santos stepped up to the challenge week one and delivered. Santos attempted two field goals and three PATs and made all five of his shots. Granted, the longest kick he attempted was 35 yards, that’s still impressive for a Bears’ kicker!

Now, he has to continue to impress. Santos needs to stay healthy and consistent in order to keep Pineiro away from his job. If Santos proves to be the guy, that’s great for the Bears. If not, we need to hope Eddy is.

Santos only has held down a full-time kicking job for three seasons; his first three seasons in the NFL while he was in Kansas City. He was solid kicking through 84% of his kicks. He hasn’t done much since only attempting 34 more field goals over the span of four seasons.
