JavoWims is going to continue to see playing time for the Chicago Bears

When Riley Ridley was inactive in favor of Javon Wims, it was no surprise to us after finding out how much more value Javon Wims had on special teams in 2019 than Ridley. However, the bigger surprise has been that Wims did not get the helmet over Ridley due to special teams- he has played just two snaps. The Chicago Bears saw his growth on special teams as an indicator that he was ready for more time on offense. So far, he has thrived.

Sure, Wims has just 18 yards in two games, although one comes with a touchdown. However, where he has impacted the game most is as a run blocker.

According to PFF, Wims is the best run blocker on the team so far. Wims has been active in that area, and even in the play below, you see him shine in the screen game.

The technique, engagement and effort is all there. Plus, you have to love that he finished with a flex, taking pride in his craft.

The Bears run four wide receiver sets, but have had to find ways to get Wims on the field. Many would assume that means Darnell Mooney coming off, but Mooney was second on the team in snaps played.

For the most part, Wims has spelled Anthony Miller. What is worth noting is that Wims has 26 run blocking snaps, while Miller is in on just 14 running plays. On the other side, Miller has ran 39 routes, and Wims has ran 26. With a mix of both, and sometimes Mooney taking a seat as well, the two are in a platoon as the number three wide receiver where they currently stand.

That is one heck of a fall for Miller, who was a consensus number two a few weeks ago, but even more impressive rise for Javon Wims, who many had on the roster bubble this summer. However, with Miller recording two drops, and Wims shining as a blocker, the split will likely continue for at least another week.
