If the Chicago Bears do not get more out of these five players, they will not get better
The Chicago Bears are 4-1, but the message this week is that they are not satisfied with it. They want to be better. Heading into week six, it is very nice for Chicago that they get extra time to reassess things. With that, they can see who needs to step up and play better. With that in mind, these five players need to perform better.
5. Cody Whitehair
This is not to say that Cody Whitehair has been the Chicago Bears worst offensive lineman. However, with the expectation that he needs to be the team’s best offensive lineman, he has not lived up to his hype yet. The last three games have been the biggest disappointments.
To be fair, that meant a lot of Grady Jarrett, DeForest Buckner, and Vita Vea. That is a run of elite defensive line play. However, even Grover Stewart excelled against Whitehair for Indianapolis in Week 4. As much as we want to rip on Charles Leno, Whitehair was the Bears worst lineman against the Colts.
Whitehair has been steady and strong for four straight years. This year was supposed to be his best, considering he has not had to move around and is finally settling in at center. Through five games, he has had a down year compared to his average level of play. If the Bears want to take a step forward, they need to see better from Whitehair in the run and pass game.
