4. Holding on for too long

Two decisions stand out as Ryan Pace not knowing when to fold them or when to walk away. After 2018, the Bears had a big decision to make on Bobby Massie. Most saw him as an aging tackle on the downside of his career. Pace should invest in a young tackle, let Massie play out his deal, and then let the veteran walk.

However, Pace was confident in this line and extended Massie, who has missed games in each of the two years since he was extended. What hurts is he did the exact same thing with Danny Trevathan. Trevathan has played better as of late, but has been a drop off from Nick Kwiatkoski, who is younger, and got the same contract.

Pace saw Nick K develop and went with the aging veteran with injury problems. These two moves did not ruin the Bears, but it speaks to why Pace cannot be trusted. He needs to choose youth over veterans and needs to know that as players age they are going to hit a wall. He seemed to be surprised Massie and Trevathan are not playing at their prime anymore.
