2020 season looks much better for Montgomery

As I predicted three months ago, David Montgomery has significantly improved this season. He has gotten better on both the stat sheet and on the field while his line has somehow gotten worse.

Although Montgomery isn’t on pace to break 1,000 rushing yards this season, he has looked much better. Currently, he has carried the ball 142 times for 575 yards (4.05 yards/attempt) and one touchdown. He also has caught 35 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

Montgomery isn’t getting the touchdowns, but that is mainly on the staff as they can’t get touchdowns anyway. Montgomery has been great this season, but has been limited by the amount of work Nagy has given him. A good example is against the Green Bay Packers, Montgomery averaged 9.36 yards/attempt on 11 carries. He needs the volume and the numbers will come.

On top of this, Montgomery has gotten much better with his vision and getting yards after contact. After being bottom five in the NFL last season in yards after contact per rush, Montgomery is now ninth in the NFL with 2.6 yards after contact per attempt. He has the same number as guys like Dalvin Cook and Kareem Hunt.

Additionally, the line is actually worse this season in terms of yards before contact per attempt as Montgomery ranks third last in that with 1.5 yards before contact per attempt.

Montgomery has already gotten better in just one offseason of hard work. He is going to keep improving to show he is going to be the next stud running back from the Bears. They just need to give him the work he deserves.
