What will the team look like coming out of the draft?
The Bears’ main needs in the draft will be quarterback, offensive line, wide receiver, and defensive line depth. Bear Goggles On has predicted the Bears to be picking anywhere from 13 to 25 in the first round.
This pick will most likely be used on either a quarterback or an offensive lineman. The most likely quarterback options in this range would be Trey Lance, Zach Wilson (maybe), Kyle Trask, and Mac Jones. Lance and Wilson could go higher too, but could also be available a little bit later in the first round. Many are arguing whether the Chicago Bears should use their first-round pick on a prospect like Trask or Jones, both of whom are not locks to be future stars.
The best linemen available would be tackles Christian Darrisaw, Samuel Cosmi, and Rashaun Slater, and interior linemen Creed Humphrey, Alijah Vera-Tucker, and Wyatt Davis. There could also be some great offensive line options in the second round too, as this is a deep class for linemen.
If the Bears can get a Wilson or even Trask, and pair them with one of the top tackle prospects, the offense could get a lot better next year. It will most likely be Foles and whoever is drafted, unless the team decides Trubisky is coming back for another trial year (which I would not be too mad at).
The main need is easily the offensive line, especially on the outside. Shoring up the line would help the offense, which needs to run through David Montgomery. Drafting a receiver in the mid-rounds could be good as well, especially if they lose depth in the offseason.
So, the Bears could have a somewhat new team next year with the possibility of being without guys like Kyle Fuller, Akiem Hicks, Mitchell Trubisky, Jimmy Graham, among other names. Yet, we could see a new rookie quarterback, better offensive linemen who are drafted, and maybe a new coaching staff and front office.
We have to stay realistic in these types of predictions because the NFL is a business. As much as we want to have Fuller and Hicks both back next year, it is more than likely that one of them is gone, maybe both.
The Chicago Bears have their work cut out for them, and it is going to be a long offseason. Hopefully, they are creative in opening up money and also that they can ace the draft. Last year’s draft class has looked nice for the Bears so far, so let’s hope that translates to this upcoming draft. Some fresh faces will arrive, some older faces will depart, but all we know is that changes will be made to some part of the team.
